My name is Yankai, a master student from Lehigh University currently working with the Sit-to-Stand data collected for Parkinson’s assessment research. While analyzing the dataset, I noticed that some trials in the IMU data, patients appear to use their arms to assist standing up. However, these trials are often still labeled with a UPDRS score of 0. This raises the question of whether such cases were considered unassisted due to shorter duration, potentially leading to a misclassification by the system. Could you please clarify: Does the scoring in this dataset rely solely on stand-up time, or is the use of arms during the task considered in the final UPDRS score? In a separate clinician-rated dataset we reviewed, similar arm-assisted trials were consistently scored as 2 or marked invalid. Could you confirm if such assisted actions were expected to be included in the UPDRS 0 class in your dataset? We aim to ensure our interpretation and usage of the data align with its intended labels and collection methodology. Any clarification on the labeling protocol or clinical judgment criteria would be greatly appreciated. Best regards, Yankai Zhao Graduate Student, Lehigh University

Hello Yankai – Thank you for your interest in our dataset. In the TUG, participants were asked not to use the armrest of the chair if they did not need to. However, some participants still lightly touched the armrests or used them. We noted this in the annotation data for the TUG to convey as clear a picture as possible as to what the participant was doing. The MDS-UPDRS evaluation is completely separate from the TUG. In this evaluation, participants were asked to stand from a chair with their arms crossed. If they were able to do this, they received a score of 0 for that item in the MDS-UPDRS. In short, we did NOT use the STS action from the TUG to inform the scoring in the MDS-UPDRS. Please let me know if more information or clarification is needed. Thank you! Kim
