Martin Picard martinpicard

Dr. Picard is an Associate Professor of Behavioral Medicine in the Departments of Psychiatry and Neurology, at Columbia University Irving Medical Center. Dr. Picard first trained in neuroimmunology and received a PhD in mitochondrial biology of aging at McGill University, where he also trained in systems biology, integrative medicine, and psychosocial oncology. He then completed a postdoctoral fellowship in mitochondrial genetics at the University of Pennsylvania in the Center for Mitochondrial and Epigenomic Medicine with Doug Wallace. At Columbia University, as affiliate member of the Center for Translational and Computational Neuroimmunology (CTCN), he leads the Mitochondrial Psychobiology laboratory which examines the interaction of human experiences such as emotions, stress and cognitive function, with molecular processes within mitochondria. Dr. Picard’s interdisciplinary group draws from knowledge in basic mitochondrial biology and imaging, stress physiology, social network neuroscience, and mitochondrial medicine to identify energetic principles that support human health.
