Ravi Sankar received the B.E. (Honors) degree in Electronics and Communication Engineering from the University of Madras, India, the M.Eng. degree in Electrical Engineering from Concordia University, Canada and the Ph.D. degree in Electrical Engineering from the Pennsylvania State University, USA. He has been with the Department of Electrical Engineering in the University of South Florida, Tampa, FL, since 1985, where he is currently a USF Theodore and Venette Askounes-Ashford Distinguished Scholar Award winning Professor of Electrical Engineering and Director of the interdisciplinary Communications, Networking and Signal Processing (iCONS) research group (http://icons.eng.usf.edu). He was a 2015-16 Fulbright Fellow to Brazil to conduct collaborative research focusing particularly on the use of multiple sensors and signal processing to improve healthcare and was a visiting research fellow of the Japanese Society for Promotion of Science (JSPS), nominated by the NSF in spring 2000 to conduct collaborative research in Japan. He also held visiting positions at the University of Melbourne, Australia, in summer 2000, U.S. Air Force Research Lab (Rome Lab), Rome, NY, in summer 1997 and Motorola, Boynton Beach, FL, in summer 1991. Prof. Sankar’s main research interests are in the areas of wireless communications, networking, signal processing and its applications. His current focus is on the use of wearable sensors and technologies for advancing health care. He has published extensively in those areas with over 230 papers in journals and premier international conferences and several book chapters. His research has been cited widely as measured by h-index of 26 and i10-index of 65. iCONS research group under his leadership has conducted successfully numerous funded research projects over the years with the support from various federal and state agencies, and industries. Through the years, he has supervised 8 post-doctoral researchers and over 65 Ph.D. and M.S. students, and 21 B.S. senior capstone design projects.
